Student Council

Student Council's main goal is to create a positive atmosphere in and around the school - to make YCMHS a place where students enjoy themselves and feel like they are part of the school. As well, Student Council gives students the opportunity to get involved and feel like they can make a difference. Student life is more to us than just studying, exams, and class. We try to provide students with activities in and out of school, where we give students the opportunity to have fun, get away from the normal school routine, and all-out be themselves. Our staff advisors are constantly alongside the members, striving to encourage, inspire, and motivate through leadership! Thanks to our advisors for all you do!

Role
The Y.C.M.H.S Student Council acts as a link between students and faculty while organizing events and activities and providing financial help to many clubs and committees.

Members
Members of the council include a President and Vice-president elected by the student body, six members from each grade level elected by members of their grade and teachers and a Secretary elected by members of the student Council.

Meetings
Meetings are on Tuesdays. The president or Vice-president directs those meetings where decisions are made about finances (or different events and clubs or committees), events (what events might take place), dances, (who to get, theme, admission, etc.) and fundraising (for more funds for Student Council and for charitable organizing).

What does Council do with money and why it fundraises money?
Student council uses money received from part of the student fees, from some of the cafeteria funds and from fundraising (dances, lollipops sales, etc.) to help support many clubs and committees in the school. The council also organizes other events to raise money to benefit needy organizations (Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research), Dress Green for Muscular Dystrophy Association, Dress Red Day for Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kit Kat sales and Aids Research, and in school food collection for local Food Bank)
