All Students who attend a high school in Nova Scotia must satisfy the following requirements in order to obtain a Nova Scotia Department of Education High School Leaving Certificate. a) 18 credits b) The following 13 compulsory courses must be included in the 18 credits: * English (3 credits) one course at each grade level (10, 11 and 12). * Mathematics (2 credits) * Science (2 credits) one which must be selected from Science 10, Physics 11, Chemistry 11, or Biology 11. * Canadian Content (1 credit) selected from Canadian History 11, African Canadian Studies 11 or Mi’kmaq Studies 10. * Global Studies (1 credit) selected from either Global Geography 12 or Global History 12. * Fine Arts (1 credit) selected from art, drama, music. * PAL 11/CLM 11 (graduating 2009) * Physical Educ. or PAL 11/CLM 11 (graduating 2010) * Physical Eduation (graduating 2011 or later) * Two Others (2 credits) selected from science, mathematics, technology (Exploring Technology 10, Construction Technology 10, Production Technology 11, Design 11, Communications Technology 12, Data Processing 12, Computer Programming 12, Multimedia 12, Word/Information Processing 12) (c) No more than seven of the 18 credits may be grade 10 level courses. |
